Meeting Some Friends at Cobal do Leblon, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This picture is just to remember this moment with some good friends. Those, including me, are people from CAP-UERJ, which was our school from 1983 to 1989 and for some since 1979. In fact this is just a small group from there. We have a mailing list with about 120 people.

This time I asked people to look at the camera, so I wouldn’t hear those female complaining about taking them in a not adequated position.

Technical datasheet:

The photo itself is not very good. Maybe I should have increased the ISO and used a noise reduction filter then. Surely if I have used RAW it would have helped too. The stitching didn’t worked very well and I had to make some post editing to join some lines, mainly on the nadir view, not only to remove the tripod.

See you, Cartola.

Latinoware 2011 in 360 degrees

Hi fellows,

these are two panoramic pictures I made in Latinoware 2011. The first one was made on october 20th, 2011 at the Zabbix speech. The second one was on the 21st during the panoramic photography workshop I did. I liked very much the workshop and I hope the students also liked. Hope we can have some more 360 photographers after that and maybe some more people to colaborate with the free software. The Zabbix speech was made by Alexei Vladisevs, its creator. For those who doesn’t know, Zabbix is a free software used to monitor computers and networks. Take a look at its site: http://www.zabbix.com/

On this second image I didn’t make a nadir picture without the tripod. As the nadir had only grass it was easy to take the tripod off with the clone tool using GIMP.

Itaipu Dam at Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil – Ducts

This is one more picture taken in July 11th, 2011 in Itaipu Dam. Now we can see the ducts that take the water to the turbines to generate the electricity. The ducts hugeness can be seen by the size of the people near them and also comparing their size with the front building.

View of Ipanema and Leblon, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

This picture has been taken as a first test for the pole I have bought to make panoramas in situations like that, where there are some objects in front of the main scene you want to shoot. As its not possible to step asite, as I shoot all sides, its necessary to go up! I has also been the first time I have used RAW. It was a beautiful sunny day showing the urban scene with mountains in the background. A typical Rio de Janeiro scenario.

The difference between the two points of view are notable. Below is a picture of the pole in action in October 2011. This was taken with my cell phone.

Wonderful Plateaus in Torre da Lua, Carolina, Maranhão, Brazil

Carolina in Maranhão, Brazil, is full of natural beauties. This is the third picture I have made there and at this time you can see the wonderful view of the plateaus seen from Torre da Lua, the name of the plateau we were in. We went there following the local guide from the tourism company Torre da Lua Ecoturismo. Who likes adventure will surely love that.

Some aspects that I recommend you don’t miss on the picture:

  • The effect on the sun. Try looking at it.
  • The Little Planet view. Turn the picture into Little Planet and interact with it. Click on the globe button to toggle to Little Planet view.

Technical Datasheet:

The picture achieved a good dynamic range. We can see reasonably well people on the shadows. The sky might not be so good for everybody, but I have already spent some time on it. Sometimes it is harder to work on a clear sky than on a cloudy one. This is the first 360 panoramic image that I publish made with my newer Sigma 10-20mm lens. Good result.

See you, Cartola.

Family meeting at home

This meeting was on last July 3rd to celebrate Bruno’s birthday. He is my older kid. We joined the family and some closer friends and I did one more 360 panoramic picture to register the moment. This kind of picture is really very nice to feel the ambiance of the place. It is almost like if you were there, possibly that is why they call it “Immersive Picture” 🙂

During the Meeting

Technical Datasheet:

This panorama let me satisfied with two aspects. First I got specially amazed with the very good fit of the lines on the floor at the bottom view (nadir). One can view some color difference, but the lines are pretty continuous and straight. The other thing I liked was the result of the noise reduction. I have used a specific tool for that called Neat Image. The indoor scenes with people moving at night without flash are usually difficult to do. Probably I would have been able to improve image quality if I had already used RAW at that time.

See you, Cartola.

Itapecuru Falls in Carolina – Maranhão – Brazil

Like at FacebookHere is one more picture from Carolina, in Maranhão’s countryside. This one has been taken in July 19th, 2011. Once again Bruno has decided to show him many times, as in the picture taken at Village Rio Verde last April.

Technical datasheet:

It has been done once again without a tripod, but it was very easy to assemble. The parallax errors practically didn’t exist. Nature pictures some times are like this. This one doesn’t have strong or very long straight lines. The only parallax adjustment was made at the electric transmission wires, far away. Besides that it has a little hole in the water due to some masks I have used. To fix that a clone tool was used.

Once again I did different expositions from one only original image and combined them using Enfuse.

See you, Cartola.
