This is one more picture made in Carolina, countryside of Maranhão, northeast Brazil. We were there, just taking some sun at  Pousada do Lajes. Bruno wanted one more time to appear in all the photos I do to make the panorama, and that’s been done. Even having many natural pools, water falls, lakes and other natural attractions, a “normal” pool has also it’s value. For the kids fun is what matters. A beautiful immersive panoramic picture is a good way of keeping this moment in our memories and makes it easy to share our view of the place. I hope you get amused with the blue sky as we did.

I just need to remember of recording the sound to create a better environment to the picture.

In this immersive panorama we can see a group of friends from Trilharte in a photographic meeting at “Museu da República” (Republic Museum) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The museum is installed in the old Palácio Nova Friburgo (New Friburg Palace), also known as Palácio das Águias (Eagles Palace). Nowadays it is called Palácio do Catete. Built between 1858 and 1867 it has been the headquarters of Brazilian Republican government during 64 years. 18 presidents have used its installations. Juscelino Kubitschek has finished the presidential age of the place, with the transfer of the federal government to Brasília in 1960. The presidential room has been where the president Getúlio Vargas has committed suicide in August, 1954. More information in Portuguese at the Museum’s site.

I still need to increase the pole stability somehow. It has been used at half high in this picture. One of the problems of the way I am using to stabilize it now is that it takes me too much time. I am using strings from the top until each tripod leg extreme. I need to put strength to each rope little by little in order not to bend the pole. I am thinking of some kind of gear to pull the three strings together.

This picture is just to remember this moment with some good friends. Those, including me, are people from CAP-UERJ, which was our school from 1983 to 1989 and for some since 1979. In fact this is just a small group from there. We have a mailing list with about 120 people.

This time I asked people to look at the camera, so I wouldn’t hear those female complaining about taking them in a not adequated position.

The photo itself is not very good. Maybe I should have increased the ISO and used a noise reduction filter then. Surely if I have used RAW it would have helped too. The stitching didn’t worked very well and I had to make some post editing to join some lines, mainly on the nadir view, not only to remove the tripod.

See you, Cartola.

This picture has been taken as a first test for the pole I have bought to make panoramas in situations like that, where there are some objects in front of the main scene you want to shoot. As its not possible to step asite, as I shoot all sides, its necessary to go up! I has also been the first time I have used RAW. It was a beautiful sunny day showing the urban scene with mountains in the background. A typical Rio de Janeiro scenario.

This year I’ve been to Foz do Iguaçu on the beginning of my vacation. This picture was taken from the top of the hotel where I was hosted with my family. I would like to thank the manager that, not only allowed me to go there and take the picture from a restricted area, but also helped me.

I decided to shoot at sunset. The sky was beautiful, with some clouds drawing the blue and orange colors. I did it on July 11th 2011 by 5:50pm.

I left the city darker than it could be. I have made a lighter version, but then I saw that the most beautiful part of the scene is the sky, so I went back. This dark version is more faithful to the original image.

This is the first time I use a new viewer for the web. It has new features like the initial animation, the sun moving flares and the interactive Little Planet scene.

Hope you like and comment!

I’ve been in Carolina on my last vacation, in July 2011. It is a small and beautiful place on the countryside of Maranhão, Brazil. It is located on the right margin of Tocantins river. The city was founded in 1809 with the name of Arraial São Pedro de Alcântara. According to a 2009 census it has a few more than 25,000 inhabitants. The picture have been taken from a church tower using a 6 meters (19.7 feet) pole.
